Project
Gefit R&D Center
A laboratory, a collection of ideas, a testing centre.
2020 is a year of evolution for GEFIT. All the most innovative ideas and solutions on production processes are being studied and tested in the new Research & Development centre.
Pre-development, free from any specific ordered job, allows a holistic approach without the limitations of current standards or “temporary” needs. Innovative solutions are not assessed for their intrinsic content, but rather for their integration with other components and their effects on the surrounding environment.
Strategy
Trends Cluster
What is Industry 4.0? How do you distinguish a 4.0 factory? The answer might be simple; however, the production reality does teach us that the edge line is not that sharp.
We at GEFIT did not stop to the mere definition nor to the paradigms of the basic concept. We did engage and push into a real market survey by assessing the actual needs of the entire production chain, from the supplier to the end-customer.
Every research and development activity does respect the identified trends.
Targets
A roadmap based on Customer needs.
We like to think in a provocative way, here at GEFIT, that we do not work for the “factory of the future” but for the evolution that is source of changing.
Our target is to define an innovation process that limits the managerial risks of our customers, but at the same time provides a modular concept of application of the new solutions.
Our vision is to be a partner for the growth of our customers, a link between suppliers and production plants. How is all that possible? The evolution process is also implemented internally through the adoption and development of new project tools, through commissioning and resource management.
MIVIS PROJECT – PRISM_E TENDER
As part of its ongoing commitment to improving its products and studying new solutions, and thanks also to a huge investment in research and development, GEFIT SPA took part in the PRISM-E call for proposals and was eligible for funding from FINPIEMONTE. The Piedmont Region through the European Structural Funds launched a broad, synergic, and integrated system of tools to support investment in research and innovation by Piedmonts companies.
With the MIVIS project, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino University, GEFT has set itself the objective of creating a smart handling and articulation system interpolated by an artificial vision device aimed at performing extremely complex assembly cycles – currently running at low speed or assigned to manual sequences – associated with high production rates and applicable to different sectors. The technical requirements of maximum precision and reliability, typical of the packaging and automotive sectors in which the company operates, will be combined with increased performance in terms of cycle time, predictive maintenance, energy saving, vision, and digitalisation.
The results of this research will bring, in addition to better cycle time performances and higher automatization grade, a clear improvement in energy efficiency, a significant increase in the use of digital technology, the possibility of adopting predictive maintenance and, finally, a reduced physical footprint. The proposal is set in a global market context, with the aim of responding to cross-sector innovation needs in line with Industry 4.0.
